The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is without a doubt the premier Gay and Lesbian Festival in the world. The 2011 night parade was the first one I had actually attended in person. This year’s parade was overseen by Artistic Director Ignatius Jones, and has a subtheme of “Say Something”.
Instead of a single Parade Leader, this year there were 8 ‘Heros of the parade’ at the head of the 5km long parade. At the press conference in the morning we were able to meet a few of them, including Hannah & Savannah who made headlines last November when they were callously banned from attending their school formal for being lesbian.
